eGain Sales Engineer Interview

Average Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Wed, 15 Jul 2015

Interviewed Jun 2,015 (took 60 days)
It was a two month process. I spoke with 3 SE managers, an SE and the Pre-sales VP. It was a crazy process that took way to long. You are looking for an SE, I'm not going to carry the missile codes. They had me do a 60 minute mock presentation as well. This went well. Everything went well, except that they did not offer me the job. It was very frustrating to jump through all the hoops and get only very positive feedback the whole time, and then not get the job. I never have done 6 meetings with a potential employer and not received an offer. I found the process disjointed, and unprofessional. It wasn't until towards the end that I learned the pay range, which turned out to be less then what I needed. They just wouldn't tell me. I asked numerous times but didn't get an answer until the end. Knowing what I know now, I would stay far away. A very poor experience.

It went fairly quickly. I was contacted by their recruiter and did a brief phone interview. After I signed an NDA, I had two one-on-one phone interviews. If I had been selected there would have been a presentation that I would have to do. I didn't get an offer, but they were all very courteous and professional. I did gain some valuable feedback post-interview.

There was a Test followed by a 2 interviews i) Written Test : Involving SQL, Javascript, Java and Quantitative Aptitude i) Java Interviews : This involved primarily questions on Collection framework, Strings, Exceptions and Concurrency ii) Design Interview : This involved designing classes and interfaces based upon a scenario provided. Two scenarios were provided.

A couple of phone interview screenings. Written Q&A (I did not think this was necessary or well thought-out). Two in-person. The whole process too about three weeks and they kept in touch so that part was okay.

Difficult Interview – Overall Positive Experience – Yes, and I accepted – Sat, 12 Jul 2014

Hiring process is very competitive. They only hire people from top colleges. First telephonic and then onsite interview. They pay for the to and fro fare for 3rd AC in India. The first round is technical telephonic, followed by another telephnic round. Then there are 4 rounds of onsite interviews. Next you meet the CEO and Hiring Manager.

The process was quick and the HR communicated in every step of the interview process. They were were quick to get back to me with the decision.

Difficult Interview – Overall Negative Experience – Yes, and I accepted – Fri, 14 Aug 2020

Interviewed Sep 2,019 in Sunnyvale, CA (took 28 days)
Met with a series of senior leaders and HR Managers. Was required to take a couple standardized test that had nothing to do with the position I was applying for. Left me waiting for over an hour on multiple occasions with no word or update on status. Almost walked out the the interview multiple times because it was run so poorly. I was originally told the Interview would last from 10-Noon, but the day before I was asked to come in an hour early to take the test mentioned above and because it was scheduled and run so poorly I ended up spending nearly the entire day sitting in a back room twiddling my thumbs while I waited for the the next person to come speak with me. I think I finally left around 3:30, but saw another prospect I interviewed at the same time as, still engaged in the interview process.

Very Easy Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Wed, 16 Dec 2020

Interviewed in Toronto, ON
Hiring manager asked bookish questions, i felt like i was writing high school exam, for example what are the 3 functions of system manager? Diff b/w this and that, manager kept going untill i gave up, they even asked sales questions, how would you sell this product to a customer. Also, in the beginning she said- I thought you are just an engineer. I have no idea what it meant. But certainly not the terms anyone should use. I didn’t get select, but I would have refused anyways, as i like to work with a true leader. Personally words matter a lot to me.

There was also a technical project, with general topic, that required some effort and most probably reduces the number of non serious applicants.
